From Harper's Weekly Review (http://harpers.org/archive/2008/02/WeeklyReview2008-02-05), something that amused me:

. . . in Britain retail chain Woolworths withdrew from sale a bed for six-year-old girls called the Lolita Midsleeper Combi after receiving complaints from parents. “We had to look it up on Wikipedia,” said a store spokesman. “But we certainly know who she is now.”

This provokes an incapacity of speech, along with an impulse to giggle, despite one's deep sympathy for that poor girl who Nobakov so mis-used.

Love, C.

Yeah, crazy, eh? Never heard of Nabokov's Lolita. mssrcrankypants posted about this article a few days ago -- it's depressing that people are so little acquainted with great literature, anymore.

Speaking of great literature, I have begun reading your Take No Prisoners. You, sir, are a great writer.

"You, sir, are a great writer."

You may be singing a different tune by the time you get to -- if you get to! -- the end of the book.

But thanks for the kind words in the interim,. anyway!

Methinks the Woolworths crowd spent a little too much time looking at internet pr0n and thought "Lolita" was an alternate word for "girl."

Or it's a sad reflection of education in this country. Judgement call.

I think that is far more likely, and far more sad.
