And so tomorrow I go back to hospital for what I hope is going to be the last in the seemingly interminable series of operations that started in the early summer.

Tomorrow's scheduled procedure is the stenting of a renal artery. A few weeks ago I had a couple of stents put into my femoral arteries, and suffered some colourful complications thereafter. This time, it being, ahem, a stent operation of an altogether different kidney, I'm hoping there won't be such a traumatic aftermath.

For those of you unfamiliar with stent operations, there are useful descriptions here; while, for some graphic accounts of the joys of extracting oneself (I'm being hellish polite) from a Texas catheter, this might be the place to consult.

You crack me up, too... I *had* to see the description extracting oneself from the Texas catheter-- you got me!

Stay safe and a bit --no, a lot-- less colorful.

We too are hoping very much that this is the last one and that it goes smoothly, without leaving all those ghastly colors and associated unpleasantness of the previous time.

When might we know how the procedure worked out and whether you are home again? Is this an overnight? Or do they plan to insert and kick you out the same day?

Love, C.

"I was hoping you'd pull this one off without a hitch."

Well, I'm hoping it's just the catheter that gets pulled off.

"I hope the process is more pleasant than the last time."

It was -- astonishingly so. I'm supposed to be taking it easy but I'm feeling more energetic than I have in a long time, and with no detectable discomfort from the operation itself. I'm hoping this lasts . . .

it sounds outrageously painful. i hope it just sounds that way. at the very least, it's reference material for a story on ... cathaterizing elves or some such.

good luck.

"it sounds outrageously painful"

Getting out of the Texas catheter is the only really painful part -- on the day itself, that is. Last time there were some later complications associated with the op, and they weren't so much fun. But this time -- fingers crossed -- there's been nothing like that, and I'm feeling rudely healthy.

"You still doing okay?"

I seem to be, although I did grab today a bit of the bedrest I'd been expecting to grab yesterday or the day before. And you?
