realthog: (real copies!)

Steve Upham, publisher of Screaming Dreams Press (which has just issued my novel The Dragons of Manhattan) and the ezine Estronomicon, had a heart attack on Monday and is currently in hospital. If you'd like to send a card or whatever, the address is

Coronary Care Ward
Prince Charles Hospital
Merthyr Tydfil
Mid Glamorgan
CF47 9DT
UK

For those who've not had the pleasure of meeting Steve, he's one of the nicest and most modest guys you could ever hope to come across. I'm hoping he makes a rapid recovery -- he's young enough that he should be able to do so -- and is soon back to his usual self.

Recently heard from Bob Lock. Steve is stabilised now and being transferred to The Heath in Cardiff. Looks like he is on the mend.

Many thanks for this info, Allyson. If you have an address for The Heath it'd be handy.

Pam and I are hoping to make it across to Fantasycon in Nottingham (I'm recuperating from heart surgery myself). With luck Steve'll be there to man his own stand; if not, and if you're doing it on his behalf, we could give you some help if you'd like.

Nice to hear he's on the mend. My condolences to Steve U. and anyone who suffers ill health. Not fun.

Yes, it has, Paul, and I love it! I'm also still trying to discover your Cone Zero story. The hunt is a fun one though, since all the tales are excellent -- great anthology, terrific writing. :)

Phew! He's been very ill for some weeks, and I was concerned that he might have overlooked mailing it to you -- in which case, obviously, I'd have sent you one from stash and settled up with him later.

Very, very thoughtful of you, Paul -- as always. Thanks.

My big problem right now is performing any tasks that require mental focusing, including reading and writing. I saw my neurologist on Monday, who, on hearing my symptoms, casually remarked that I might have a meningeal tumor, tra la, and that I need to undergo some tests. I, on the other hand, think all my symtoms are the result of post traumatic stress syndrome, with which I have already been diagnosed. We shall see.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

How are you doing?

"Keep your fingers crossed for me!"

I will indeed be doing exactly that. Please keep Pam and I fully informed about your tests and their results. We're thinking of you lots.

"How are you doing?"

Very well. Saw the cardilogist yesterday, and he's extremely pleased with me. Next stage is to get some arterial stenting done, starting on August 12 . . .

Glad to hear you're doing well, Paul. And good luck with the arterial stenting. I will definitely be thinking of you, and sending good thoughts your way!

More to the point are the good thoughts coming your way! The stenting's minor by comparison with your current concerns.

Thanks, Paul. But honestly I think the MRI the neurologist ordered-up will reveal a normal brain, albeit an eccentric one! I believe all the trouble I'm having is caused by post traumatic stress. A bottle of knock-out pills, and I'll be fine.
