realthogThere's been a fair amount of schedule-juggling to be done -- because my NEW, IMPROVED, BUY ONE GET ONE FREE double operation requires the presence of a vascular surgeon to do the work on my neck arteries as well as the heart surgeon to do the bypasses -- but at last a date has been fixed.

Monday somehow seems very much closer than it did a few minutes ago.

Oh, the medics encourage it, I'm told! Anything to get me out of my bed and mobile, they said.
A few hours after one of You Know Who's life-threatening operations at Stoke Mandeville, she managed to make her way somehow as far as the smoking room for a ciggie. The docs couldn't believe it. As one of them remarked, "It's the first time I've ever known cigarettes to have definite therapeutic benefits."
