Mike Allen ([livejournal.com profile] time_shark), editor of the Clockwork Phoenix anthology series, has announced that ARCs of Clockwork Phoenix #3 -- which contains a story by me but is otherwise good -- are now available for purposes of review. In the usual way, there are limited quantities of the physical ARCs, theoretically infinite supplies of the PDF version.

For further details, see the announcement on Mike's LJ.

You almost certainly won't recall that a while ago I was crowing insufferably about my story "The Life Business" being accepted by Gerard Brennan and Mike Stone for their anthology of Irish crime stories, which was at the time called The Red Hand of Crime.

It has gone through a name chance since then, and is now called Requiems for the Departed, under which title it has just been blurbed by the estimable Reed Farrel Coleman:

Requiems for the Departed is as Irish as a broken heart, yet universal in appeal. Stuart Neville’s “Queen of the Hill” alone is worth the price of admission, but it’s only the cream at the top of the pint. With stories from the likes of Bruen, McKinty, Moore, and Grant, you’ll want to squeeze every last drop out of this glass.

Natch, the editors are cock-a-hoop -- as who wouldn't be?

Over at the NYT political blog The Caucus, Jeff Zeleny and Bernie Becker have the latest:

R.N.C. Spends Thousands on Private Jets, Limos and Clubs, Report Shows

The Republican National Committee spent about $30,000 in February on private airplanes and limousines. But those charges were overshadowed by the $1,946.25 charge at Voyeur West Hollywood, which was described by The Los Angeles Times last year as a “high-end nightclub” with an interior “reminiscent of the masked orgy scene” from the movie “Eyes Wide Shut.”

There's more, including the usual excuses and of course the perennially recurring phrase "the money will be reimbursed", here.

This is kind of oldish news, but I forgot to post anything about it until reminded by the recent sale of two book projects, one a reissue and one a newie (more on these later). David Fitzpatrick has been kind enough to buy for his anthology Salacious Tales my rude story "I'm Running".

A while back I decided it might be fun to see if I could do anything interesting with the fantasy/erotica intermingle. What resulted were four stories: one that I hated (it sold instantly), one that I thought was okay (it sold instantly for big bux), one that I loved and still love beyond belief ("Has Anyone Here Seen Kristy?", which sold instantly -- to the late lamented The Third Alternative, there was singing and dancing all over the house that day), and one that I loved quite a lot because it was funky and fun and a shaggy dog fantasy story that made me grin even at the same time that it was serving up a homage to the film noir genre wot I love. Then Cecelia Tan, doyenne of erotic fantasy, informed me that this wasn't a fun story at all, but

!!!!!!Horror!!!!!!

Her advice was good. Even so, this story that I loved, "I'm Running", didn't sell at all until David Fitzpatrick saw it; his acceptance was more or less immediate, which persuaded me that he was a wise and wonderful anthologist, had I not suspected as much already -- he was a fellow-contributor to Des Lewis's Cone Zero. I'm not sure when the antho will appear, but I'm proud to be a part of it.
