Every now and then -- mostly then -- I try to make a habit of downloading my LJ using the excellent tool LJArchive, which some kind soul made available a few years back.

I've just discovered that, in one of the recent LJ software upgrades, there's been a change made that has had the inadvertent side-effect of making LJArchive no longer functional. The developer of LJArchive has moved on to other projects, apparently, and is no longer upgrading this one.

Does anyone know if there's any other program that performs the same function? I'd be ever so grateful for the info!

I asked this about a year ago. Everyone suggested the LJArchive which didn't work for me, printing which would be very expensive and making a back-up through Dreamwidth which I've also been avoiding.

The annoying thing is that it seems to do the downloading of the entries but then, getting stuck on the comments, abort entirely to leave nothing. Since I'm not bothered about keeping the comments . . .

I've used http://ljbook.com/ periodically to create a PDF of my journal. Haven't used it in several months, however, and so do not know if it too is affected by changes on LJ itself.

Many thanks for the tip! I gave it a try but, alas, without success. It said I needed to change the journal's format to UTF8.

To this technically unastute mind, UTF is a typo and needs a question mark.

Hmm...seems like I ran across this some time ago, and twiddled a bit somewhere. There are a couple of FAQs on it:

As I recall, it didn't seem to make a lick of difference one way or another to my LJ experience. Maybe look into it? Meanwhile, I will also try to make an LJbook of my own and see if that service still functions. I've been meaning to do that for 2011 anyway.
