worth repeating
Nov. 9th, 2011 08:49 amI've been quiet here recently, largely because I've been working myself silly on Encyclopedia of Film Noir -- not just because its deadline is horrendous but also because, with life's usual impeccable timing, a couple of people want me to take on some freelance editorial jobs that interest me so I'm trying to make room for them.
Whatever.
Friend Ray Ridenour discovered a quote today that I felt I just had to pass on:
"The truth will set you free. But first it will piss you off."
-- Gloria Steinem
Elsewhere, there's a review just appeared of Denying Science whose opening lines are so goddam flattering that I -- yea, even moi! -- am sufficiently embarrassed by them that I'm going to have to muster up some chutzpah before repeating them here. But I'm sure I'll manage it somehow.
Whatever.

Date: 2011-11-09 03:27 pm (UTC)Ah, film noir. Is this just English language, or is it global (and if the latter, have you seen the wonderful Hong Kong noir On the Run?)? Either way, you have license to write about Richard Widmark, and I am envious.

Global . . . including not just HK but Japan, the Scandinavians, the French and Germans, Oz, India, Egypt, the South Americans . . .
Obviously, alas, I'm not going to be able to watch every one of ~3000 movies, but in line with your tip I've moved Mong Ming Yuen Yeung/On the Run to the MUST WATCH list. Thanks for the advice!

More to the point, I have license to write about Veronica Lake and Lizabeth Scott.
