In this country the idea of "hate speech" is regarded with distaste, since it gets in the way of any r4ed-blooded American patriot expressing his God-given freedom of speech by shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theatre.

The inability to recognize that hate speech can kill as effectively as bullets (don't they remember Rwanda?) is boggling.

Sometimes it's very hard not to just think that 90% of Americans are plain crazy.

I know. And yet, in reality, most of the people I know here are much as you'd expect a similar collection of Brits to be. The problem is there are great tracts of the country -- primarily the educational deserts, although the cause-and-effect relationship isn't straightforward -- where your 90% is a gross underestimate.
