. . . both England and, even more importantly, Scotland lost at the cricket today.

Scotland wins at the cricket? Why does this sound like the sun rising in the west. Or even like Zimbabwe winning at the cricket? (Now, presumably, there will be citations from the obscurer pages of Wisden, involving either Scotland defeating Zimbabwe or even Zimbabwe defeating Scotland.)

Real tragedy occurs when West Indies loses.

Scotland got to the final (the match played today) of the ICC minnows' ODI tournament (whatever its official title is), where they were not unexpectedly beaten by Ireland. Had they won, it'd have been nearly as much of an upset as today's defeat of England by Bangladesh.

Real tragedy occurs when West Indies loses.

That's what's known as an everyday tragedy, isn't it?

Don't worry. I've faced worse. I can live through this, given time.

Probably.

*sob!*

I must have watched a cricket match for a couple of days before I realized they had an outfield...

Then you made a poor choice of cricket matches.

Yes, Scotland is fairly distracting.

Oh yes there is! My auntie lives there.

After you've seen my auntie, though, I'll admit that, well, um . . . The walk along the Esplanade's quite pretty, and there's the occasional J.M. Barrie-related bit and piece around the town. Otherwise, no wonder you were watching telly.

Although, you have to be fair to them, Bangladesh played a cracking game and they deserved to win. Quite honestly they could have won earlier, even.

Well, little snatches of it. The great thing about going to [livejournal.com profile] rotwang's place at this time of year is he will definitely have the cricket on and will flick across to it at regular intervals during the afternoon. [livejournal.com profile] bibliogirl and [livejournal.com profile] bytepilot were very patient with us.

Rotwang is clearly a fine fellow, and I have instantly befriended him.
