I seldom watch t.v. news. What a load of manure. In fact, most of what's on t.v. is manure.

Same here. PBS's news service is okayish, but shows all the signs of its underfunding. We usually, if watching tv news, turn to the BBC World News. I thought it was just us who did this -- because of the Brit connection an' all -- but several US friends have said the same. Which is kind of sad, really: people relying on the news service of a foreign country because they think what's on offer in their own is inadequate.

What's interesting is to note the difference in coverage between CNN and CNN International (which we can see domestically). The latter is much better at covering the world (it's one advantage, from my perspective when I'm in Europe, is that it gives the weather for Atlanta) than its domestic version. I wonder why.

I had not even been aware of the existence of CNN International.

As you say, interesting -- especially since, by way of comparison, the BBC domestic news gives international coverage that, while certainly not as broad as BBC World News's, is nonetheless pretty adequate (or was; for all I know it may have changed in the past few years . . .)

I can't, of course, see what's on BBC television news, but BBC Radio 4 is superior, I'd say, to NPR in its coverage of the world.
