Armed thugs at the US/Canadian border have beaten up, pepper-sprayed and otherwise abused the Canadian sf author Peter Watts, who is now facing criminal charges for assaulting their fists with his face and body: the purported scenario relies on the well known trait you find in nerdy middle-aged writers whereby they attack gangs of armed men. Please spread the word through blogs and otherwise. I've written to my Senator demanding something be done (we're lucky enough to have Bob Menendez, who's one of the best of the bunch); you might wish to do likewise. If abroad, protesting to the relevant US Embassy might be useful -- so that it becomes evident this is an international stink. (It's a pity, in this context, that the current Canadian Govt comprises such a bunch of neocon sycophants . . . and, believe me, that comment was heavily censored before it reached your eyes.)

Pam's first remark? "No way I'm taking you up to Toronto with me on that business trip in the New Year."
