Over the past few years I've read and for the most part really liked a bunch of Icelandic crime/detection novels.

Well, that particular activity has now been put on hold. Why?

The company behind Iceland's fin whaling industry is planning a huge export of whalemeat to Japan.

I gather the increasing international popularity of Icelandic fiction has made a significant contribution to the economy of this very small country. Well, it ain't going to get any contribution from me until it does something about whaling company Hvalur hf and its owner Kristjan Loftsson. May he rot.

A boycott of their fiction should make them blubber.

How sad that EVERYTHING is about money! It's written that the love of money is the root of all that is evil...so true!

Good for you!

The only way the market system works is if people vote their conscience when they make purchasing decisions. Thank you for being responsible.

Well, crud. I had been in the earliest stages of investigating/planning a trip there next summer. So much for visiting the mid-Atlantic Ridge in the near future. :(

Yes, Iceland has been a problem for whales for a very long time. It's one thing, as a tribal people, to hunt sea mammals for survival, and another thing altogether when it comes to commercializing the practice.

Reprehensible.
