sociopath news

Over at Media Matters they're running a poll, asking you to vote for the most disgusting, reprehensible, irresponsible moment of broadcast "journalism" since President Obama took office. The calibre of the entries on offer can be inferred from the fact that Bill O'Liarly, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter don't even make the cut: the nominees are that bad. Here they go:
Limbaugh on Obama: "We are being told that we have to hope he succeeds, that we have to bend over, grab the ankles ... because his father was black"
In rant on mortgage rescue plan, CNBC's Santelli "guess[ed]" that Chicago trading floor workers are "a pretty good statistical cross-section of America, the silent majority"
Beck has car idled outside of studio during show to "do our part for global warming" [ETA: After posting this, I received breaking news from the Beeb that 1500 Indian farmers have committed suicide because the shortage of water means they cannot grow their crops. That's fifteen hundred people rendered so desperate by the changing climate that death seemed the only way out. You bet I thought long and hard about Beck's truly hilarious stunt as I read of their fate. What a wag he is!]
In CNBC host Cramer's "U.S.S.A.": "Comrade[ ]" Obama is a "Bolshevik" who is "taking cues from Lenin"
Limbaugh on EFCA: "One day Tony Soprano will walk in with a lead pipe and he will start beating people upside the head to vote to unionize"
Buchanan on congressional stimulus debate: "Honeymoon is over. There's a lot of wife beating going on."
Morris: "Those crazies in Montana who say, 'We're going to kill ATF agents because the U.N.'s going to take over' -- well, they're beginning to have a case"
Glenn Beck mocks Obama's aunt's "limp"
Beck imitates Obama pouring gasoline on "average American"; says: "President Obama, why don't you just set us on fire? ... We didn't vote to lose the Republic"
Beck: "You can't convince me that the founding fathers wouldn't allow you to secede"
Reporting on tea parties, Fox Business' Willard asks: "Guys, when are we going to wake up and start fighting the fascism that seems to be permeating this country?"
Kudlow complains about Obama and Chavez's "Boyz N The Hood handshake"
Hard to pick a winner, isn't it? We're spoiled for choice . . . and this is just the very topmost tip of an almost unimaginably large iceberg.
One wonders just how many more instances we're going to have to endure of borderline crazies and impressionable dimwits tipped over the edge by such "commentators" into going out with their guns to "get me some libruls" before we as a nation wise up to just how criminal these creeps are. Their claim is that they're protected by freedom-of-speech principles and all they're offering is opinion; in fact, of course, what they're trading in is, Goebbels-fashion, designedly inflammatory hatespeech, and they -- and those who employ them -- should be held responsible for the consequences. That's what rights are all about.

Date: 2009-04-24 04:32 pm (UTC)It's sad that psychopaths are running/ruining our lives, the earth. But that's what they do, and that's why we must fight them where we can, and cause unrest at the gates of their strongholds.

Date: 2009-04-25 03:25 am (UTC)I've added a further note about Beck to my posting.
To be honest, I think Beck is actually mentally imbalanced, and thus not responsible for the disgusting, hate-filled stuff he comes out with: he needs clinical treatment, not a television show. The people who're making bucks out of putting this nutcase on the air, where he can affect other nutcases -- many far more violent than he is (we hope) himself -- those people deserve every condemnation possible. They must be genuinely sociopathic in that they give not a monkey's fart for the potentially horrific consequences of their money-making endeavours.

Date: 2009-04-25 05:12 am (UTC)It was science fiction at the time.
It certainly sounds like a PKD storyline, too.

Date: 2009-04-25 12:03 am (UTC)How they complain about the liberal media. The media must be liberal, because every time I turn on the tv or radio or open a newspaper, there's George Will, Bill O'Reilly, William Kristol, David Brooks, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Nixon operative Pat Buchanan, Joe Scarborough, Dick Cheney, Sean Hannity, Michelle Malkin, G. Gordon Liddy, "Dr." Laura Ingraham, Karl Rove, Michael Savage, Don Imus, Michael Medved, Calvin Thomas, Rick Santorum ($1,700 per column!), Thomas Sowell, Kathleen Parker, Fred Barnes, P.J. O'Rourke, Ben Stein, Charles Krauthammer, Peggy Noonan, Jonah Goldberg, and/or a host of American Enterprise Institute or Heritage Foundation hacks telling me how goddam liberal the media is.
Or Newt Gingrich, or Michelle Bachman, or John McCain (who must have won the election), or Sarah Palin, or, or, or ....

Date: 2009-04-25 03:08 am (UTC)"The first one felt like a hit to the gut, it was so bad. Of course, so were the others, but that one really did me in right off the bat."
Media Matters is a good site, and will send you e-mail bulletins (daily roundup, or weekly roundup, etc.) of this sort of stuff. Some of their commentary is left-of-centre, but the other 95% is essentially centrist, primarily factual and about as objective as well meaning people of intelligence can possibly hope to be when confronted by the oceans of b.s. and hatred that creeps like the above are broadcasting all day and every day.
