Thinking about it, I'd view 'highbrow' and 'lowbrow' as parts of a Venn diagram (or, to borrow some critical terms, crosshatching in the middle and fading out into water margins...).
The typo (which, admittedly, I probably wouldn't have spotted had I not stopped scrolling in exactly the right place) is "Ian Banks on his new book...".
