oldie but goodie

Well, golly! I've just discovered that, in the closing minutes (literally) of last year, Angela Gunn of the USA Today blog Tech_Space posted her Best Science Books of 2007 list, and among the nine books there is my own Corrupted Science. I am, naturally, very, very pleased!

Gunn gives the book a good capsule review, too:

. . . this looked . . . like one of those bargain throwaways you see at Barnes and Noble -- until you remember how much fun Grant's 2006 Discarded Science was and scoop it up in search of chewy anecdotal goodness. The tone this time is considerably darker . . . His comparison of the current administration's assault on scientific truth and inquiry goes even further than Christopher Mooney's 2005 The Republican War on Science -- but then again the administration's had two more years to run amuck.

For the rest, see http://blogs.usatoday.com/techspace/2007/12/closing-the-boo.html. This is like finding an unopened Christmas present!

Good Show!

That US publicist who marketed Corrupted Science as a children's book needs to have a voodoo dolly sent her way...one with a note attached to it outlining the distinction between "adult" and "juvenile".

Excellent review that should really help sell the book! Congratulations!

What is "egoboo"?

Merry Xmas!

Yay {{{{realthog}}}}! What a fabulous--and well-deserved--review! And having it attached to USA TODAY is icing on the cake. Hugs and happy dances, Jean Marie

To be fair, this is probably a product of her efforts. In among all the Disney Fun, etc., on her list was USA Today. It's not too much of a stretch to reckon that the copy sent to the newspaper made its way to the blogger.

It looks to be a pretty good blog, incidentally. I'm planning to go bacvk for a rootle through it when I have a bit more leisure.

Thanks, ma'am!

How's your daughter today?

[identity profile] realthog.livejournal.com 2008-04-22 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)

Thanks, Louis! (And I know I owe you a long post, but time's tight right now.)

Egoboo is a fannish term for shameless self-promotion -- I think the origins are ego + boost, but I may be wrong.

Thanks, Laird!

Thanks, JM!

"And having it attached to USA TODAY is icing on the cake."

Not 100% sure about this. Scientific American might have been better. Still, I'm awfully pleased.

Oh, I like that. And it helps that it nearly rhymes with bugaboo.

You owe me nothing, my friend. Belief systems can be so internal and private that I never mean to butt into one, and I absolutely respect (and even sometimes agree with) your views on the subject. I assumed that thread was pretty much done anyway, so no worries at all!

But USA TODAY has lots more readers. Hugs and smiles, Jean Marie

"But USA TODAY has lots more readers."

Um. Bites tongue . . .

Adie news, please!

You are being nagged . . .

Congrats!

she got released from the hospital yesterday, but hasn't called so I don't know how she is doing. But with her, no news is good news. I'll call her later today to check up on her if she doesn't call me first.
