publishers to bleed to death from Arts Council cuts?

Further to my post a few days ago (http://realthog.livejournal.com/16151.html) about the difficulties the medium-small UK publisher Dedalus will face should its Arts Council grant indeed be abruptly terminated, there's a long and very informative article in the current Publishing News about the difficulties facing a whole bunch of smaller, "literary" publishers whose grants may be cut.

You can find the piece at http://tinyurl.com/23lohw.

Very many thanks for that link. The short-sightedness of the Arts COuncil is bemusing. Fiction published in the UK is insular enough without apparently wilfully targeting those publishing fiction in translation (which characterise both Dedalus and Arcadia lists).

I signed the Deadlus petition. Do you know if there is an equivalent one for Arcadia?

Best wishes
Scott

PS ON the hour started last night and should be on listen again now.

I haven't found one as yet. I was hoping to do a more thorough search today, but alas it hasn't been that kind of a day! If you come across one before I get a chance to search properly, I'd be grateful if, likewise, you could let me know.
