Possibly because - and you know I mean no offence - for the greater part of American history those beliefs were ingrained as the norm. Maybe we like to think that something like that can be overturned in the space of a generation, but when I hear something like this I start thinking it may take a lot longer than that.
And then again, there are assholes everywhere who never change.
