quote of the day
"Every barrel of oil that comes out of those sands in Canada is a barrel of oil that we don't have to buy from a foreign source."

At Queenston Heights and Lundy's Lane,
Our brave fathers, side by side,
For freedom, homes and loved ones dear,
Firmly stood and nobly died;
And those dear rights which they maintained,
We swear to yield them never!
Our watchword evermore shall be
"The Maple Leaf forever!"

A plausible explanation for Perry's gaffe, but not completely convincing: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq are the first few oil-producers that come to mind who're allies of ours.

My guess is that much of the stupidity these politicians they don't believe themselves: they just figure that stupidifying the US public with a constant torrent of falsehood and misinformation will lead the nation to a state where our rulers can do exactly what they want because most of the electorate will be swallowing absolute nonsense while being engrossed in reality TV and the Living Frontline Hell of the War to Save Christmas.

I'm sure virtually no one in his audience noticed, as he continued speaking. It's the kind of thing that does take a second or two to register.

I think Perry's preferred anthems are more along the lines of "I wanna get back to Dixie, I wanna be a Dixie Pixie . . ."
