I get your point. I don't want to read endless retreads of the same damn' quest story with the same damn' harrowing of hell at the heart of it. Not that other writers haven't done as good a job of the harrowing of hell theme in other fantasies (Ursula Le Guin in the Earthsea trilogy manages to do it twice! And do it quite convincingly each time.)
